When it comes to high-stakes litigation, Milton "Milt" Hathaway, partner at Murphy Schmitt Hathaway, doesn’t just show up — he shows up early. With more than four decades of experience, Milt has built a deeply respected career handling complex cases in personal injury, wrongful death, municipal liability, and product liability — all with the kind of calm, strategic focus that comes from decades in the courtroom (and a worldview shaped by a few international stamps along the way).



A cum laude graduate of Arizona State University (1975) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona (1978), Milt has been practicing law in Arizona since the lava lamp era. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell — the legal equivalent of a five-star review from your toughest critics — and is licensed to practice before the United States District Court (District of Arizona) and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He remains a proud and active member of the State Bar of Arizona and the Yavapai County Bar Association.

In 2002, Milt brought his talent and tenacity to Murphy Schmitt Hathaway as a partner, following a four-year chapter in Hong Kong and Singapore with his wife, Meredith. While abroad, he took on community leadership roles with The American Club Singapore and contributed to FriendshipWorks, a nonprofit focused on building connection and support within the expat community.

But don’t mistake his international resume for a passport stamp collection. Milt is an anchor of the firm — dependable, dialed-in, and often the first one in the building. He combines classic courtroom experience with modern legal tools, and he’s as comfortable with a secure remote hearing as he is at counsel table. Tech-savvy and fully equipped to work across time zones, Milt can serve clients from anywhere — and has for many years.
